The listing, Vintage English Riding Boots has ended.
I can't remember where I got these; I think they were tossed into a box of items I won at an estate auction.
The are *TRUE* English riding boots, made by Peal & Co. of London. So, what's the big deal? The company went out of business in 1965! At 45 years old, these boots are older than most of the people here on Listia! They were so respected, they had an Appointment from Queen Victoria, Edward VII, George V, and finally Elizabeth II to make boots for the Royal family (see the close-up of the label).
They have some problems. For some reason, the tops had been trimmed down, and unevenly at that. Also, due to their age, the stitching has dry-rotted; they'll need to be re-stitched by a good shoe repair person, but it IS worth the cost (how much would new, AUTHENTIC English riding boots cost?). On the plus side, the leather is still reasonably good; there's light cracking, but no serious problems noted. The shoe repair person should be able to restore the leather as well.
No indication of size, but I would estimate 7.
These would make great window dressing, as well as being able to show customers some REAL Peal & Co. boots! How respected was the company? The 3-part wooden stays that came with the boots (one set is shown in the photo, but they are NOT included) sold for over $100 on their own!
S/H: ACTUAL COST, USPS Parcel Post. They're knee high (they still have the boot straps sewn in), so figure a box of 12" x 8" x 36", weight of 4 lbs.
