Marigolds are best picked at high noon, when the sun is strongest. Place garlands of marigold blossoms over doorways to prevent evil from entering. They are useful for discovering thieves if you’ve been robbed. When scattered under the bed, they offer protection during sleep and pleasant dreams. If you happen to have a court date, carry a sachet of marigold flowers to sway justice in your favor. Treading on the petals with bare feet will help you to understand birds, according to folklore. Practical/Medicinal Uses:
Apart from being an attractive addition to any garden, marigold flowers can help repel pesky critters that nibble on your plants when set in as a border. The flowers are antiseptic; add them to a poultice to prevent infection in a wound. They can also be used externally to treat bruises, burns, sores, and skin ulcers. Excellent for soothing chapped lips, or chafed nipples in nursing mothers. Make a nice, strong infusion of the blossom and add it to a bath to help heal a sunburn. When taken as a mild tea, it can be used to relieve indigestion and diarrhea.
