Steel plate engraved picture of Civil War Gen. William T. Sherman with engraved autograph by H.W. Smith of New York. This rare engraved picture was produced sometime between 1865 and 1875. The engraved picture is lighter and more detailed than illustration here shows. The picture above has been copied darker than actual picture to show brown aging spots and slight paper aging. The engraved picture is not matted and is in excellent condition for it's age. The picture measures 5 1/2 inches wide and 9 inches long.

Questions & Comments

Gen. Sherman was famous for taking Atlanta and his march to the sea. Later when approached about running for President, he said, "If nominated I will not run and if elected I will not serve." He also is credited with the famous line, "War is hell."

Please note first picture was scanned dark to show age spots, they are not extremely dark but want bidders to know they are there. The second picture more clearly shows how the engraved picture actually looks.

The reason I wanted this. Is because it is my hubasds grant, grant grandfather.his cousin has the same picture at her house but I wanted it for him.
