This is a pretty cool item. It's a ladle or stirring spoon that has a thermometer built in. There's a little label that gives the optimum temp for different items.

I've tried it a couple of times and either I don't have it submerged far enough, or it simply doesn't work. I assume it has to have the plastic cap that is missing from the top to actually function. I had grand ideas about locating a hairspray bottle lid or something similar to glue on the top when I bought it. Of course that's never happened.

That being said... it's actually a very nice stirring spoon. Its solid, and the big wide spoon mixes really well.

The bowl is 2 inches in diameter, and it's perfectly round. The whole spoon measures 12 inches tip to tip.

This was made by the TCA company in Springfield, OH. I found an advert in an old newspaper online for some of their other products. It was dated 1965. So that might be the approximate age of this too.
