I have an ipod touch in this condition. The glass being shattered does nothing to the devices effectiveness. Just wanted to tell anyone who might be wondering about that.

You have to make sure it's for this phone, because the iPhone 3G/3GS screens will fit but they won't work properly because for the iPhone 2G, it has the digitizer connected, unlike the later models.
