Description

The listing, American Pride Cupcake has ended.

I'd wondered whether or not to list this washcloth origami cupcake in the "Holiday and Seasonal" category, yet I think this theme would be good for not only a number of holidays--e.g Independence Day, Flag Day, etc.--but for anyone who wants to show their "American pride!"
Placed in a silver wrapper, the cupcake is surrounded by various American theme photo stickers including American flags, a bald eagle and the Statue of Liberty(enhanced with a bit of silver and blue glitter glue)as well as small sized red and blue glitter foam stickers. Swirling patterns of white and light blue crystal beads enhance both the photo and star stickers. The cupcake is topped with an American flag--it's actually two American flag toothpicks glued together that in the the back I painted with blue glitter glue to lessen the toothpick look. I've noticed when I originally made this cupcake, I'd used two wrappers--probably because I might have not liked how I placed the first wrapped, hence my covering it with another--so I do notice in photo 4, there's a bit of the 1st wrapper showing. If this is an issue, I can most likely cover this with beads but you really have to look very closely to see this. The cupcake measures 4" high and 3" in diameter.
Please feel free to inquire if you have any questions. Many thanks for looking!

Thanks. Generally when I make the cupcakes and other washcloth origami, I try my best to have the viewer forget that it was once a simple unused washcloth. You just reminded me of a time when I was working in a nursing home in Recreation. I was teaching the patients how to make these cupcakes(however due to their cognition and fine motor skills, I had to find other ways for them to make the cupcakes look elaborate). The nurse had walked in and asked me if I was aware of any of the patients who were diabetic...apparently she thought that these were real cupcakes. Both the patients and I explained to her that these were decorations.

Oh for heavens sake! What a nice compliment that was ㋡. You have quite a talent as with my other comments it really looks like a decorated cupcake. I truly thought it was a recipe and that was the cover of the instructions. Do you make other things too? I don’t know where you learned that, the only thing that I’ve ever seen manipulated was those diaper cakes. To the best of my recollection I can’t think of a washcloth origami ever. Awesome

I see the Statue of Liberty head and is that a bald eagle in the picture before that? I hope I win this because I’m excited to see it

If you’re interested, the Americana cupcake also has Statue of Liberty and bald eagle stickers.

I just realized that I didn’t answer your prior question about making other types of washcloth origami. I started out with making what was called “boo boo bunnies” when I was in college. Though I taught this while I was in nursing homes and assisted living facilities, I saw that the folding part of this project was difficult for seniors—especially if they had arthritis—so I found out about making cupcakes in which the folding and rolling is considerably more simple for them. I’ve also learned how to fold washcloths into cats, birds, dogs, pigs—from that I adapted it to make a donkey—and teddy bears. I’m currently listing a teddy bear. As for decorating them, I just experiment with my own creativity and see where it takes me with the project. Thanks for asking and your interest...good luck!
