The listing, American Holly Tree berries x 3 (4 seeds each) has ended.
The American Holly Tree is an evergreen that grows mainly in the Eastern United States. As a matter of fact, I got these berries from my local United States Post Office. They are growing along the front of the building. Its bright red berries and pointed leaves are commonly used as holiday decorations.
Although the easiest way to grow a holly tree is from a cutting, it is possible to grow one from a berry. Each berry contains approximately 4 course, rigid seeds that can grow into a holly tree under the right conditions. The process can take quite a while.
Collect holly berries and break the skins off. Rinse the seeds thoroughly with water. Place some soil-less potting material in a flat container. Plant seeds 1/4" deep. Cover container and place it outdoors in a sheltered area for the duration of winter. Check seeds in spring to see if they have sprouted. If not, you will have to leave them for another winter before they will sprout. Transplant the young plants as needed and remove weeds and other plants that may grow up around the young trees.
