Description

The listing, Antique type Brooch has ended.

I call this an "antique type" for lack of knowing how to describe it. This brooch is a pretty blue that sort of reminds me of wedgewood. It is 1 1/2 inches across.

I have no info on this, found it at an estate sale. The carving is of a man and woman sitting under a tree, don't know what its made of, whether stone, plastic or something else. The setting is metal and had a gold finish on it that was partially off. I cleaned the remainder and it came out silver. There is one small spot on the left side that is gold in color. It is in the metal itself.
The clasp works well and is on securely.

Thats all I know about this. Hope someone out there will recognize the type and style. I would love to hear from you.

From what I know of my own cameo collection and from what I've learned in my degree, is that this is a type of resin, and not from a stone. If it is from a stone, it will feel slightly cool to the touch, and it would have an open back like all real cameos do (including Wedgwood's), because they need to "breathe" and are always more aesthetically pleasing. The closed back also shows that the cameo face was glued or sealed in its encasing, not set in like a stone. You can also tell it's a resin, by looking at the fine detail inbetween the figures, like the "scraping" tool marks made by the original model for this resin. And by looking at the design, it's probably dating from the 1940's to the 1960's. If there is no markings, like stamp marks of numbers or little symbols, then it is probably made of some time of non-precious metal with a gold tone medal over top of it. If it does have markings, it is possible that this piece is silver and had previously had a gold plating over top of it.

I hope this helps you! I think it's a wonderfully piece, very stunning in its own right, and anyone would be lucky to own it! It has a little bit of Greek design in it, with the couples flowing robes, but it also reminds me of Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy for some reason :)

Thank you so much!! The information you have shared helps tremendously. Now, I feel that at least if someone cares to bid on this piece they will have some knowledge to base that bid on. Again, thank you. If I find out anything more I will share that also. It is a rather romantic sort of piece!

Make that 1915-1960. It's a little hard to date, because of the pointed peak design around the cameo, but this seems like a solid estimate. I also looked at the locking mechanism, and it's more modern and also seen in the 1920's.
