Description

The listing, ICE CREAM BANANA PLANT has ended.

Ice Cream banana AKA Blue Java is a fast and strong grower given that it has bright light and ample watering. A taller variety than others and it states on many sites that it can grow up to 18 ft but mine have never grown that high even when I plant them in the ground. Mine seem to only get as high as aprox. 8 ft. You can control the size when growing in pots but you will want to make sure it has room to grow and bear fruit. The fruit tastes like ice cream and vanilla, is pure white in color but the outer skin to the fruit is blue/green...very pretty. Can start producing fruit within 10 to 15 months. If you are concerned about where to grow it in winter, where there is snow and frost, cut off the whole stem down to 1-2 inches above rhizome, clean most of the soil off, store in dark plastic bag or keep in container that it was growing in just do not water, and place in dark cool room (no freezing temps) This banana does handle cold temps better than any other variety i have grown.
Confirmation number will be added when shipped.

Hi jenny, they wouldn't live outside here in Pa but I take them inside for winter. Oh...I have heard from friends that do keep theirs in the ground in Maryland if planted close to their house.

Hi don, It all depends how well this auction does. If it gets to costly shipping and credits not doing well plus giving away the plants then probably not. If it does turn out well, I can do a few more of different varieties.

How large of a pot do you need for it to produce fruit? Also how tall do they have to be before producing fruit? Thanks

They are fast growing and pups can take 10-15 months to produce fruit if given ample water, fert. and sunlight plus a large container about a 10 gal or up I would think would work.

F&W in the north these can take up to 24 months to fruit. Due to the lower humidity and less sun and In the south they usually take up to 18 months. Depending on how much sun and humidity they receive. Hope this helps your bidders :)

rgg, it might help to look up online about growing banana trees in your state. In pots it will do fine. Just move it around until you see what place it is happiest at. You will be able to tell by the leaves and growth.
