Thanks! Karen Hesse is a wonderful author. She's the writer of "Out of the Dust", in case you've heard of that. "Witness" is written in a similar fashion -- prose-like letters.

It's written in a journal format from the point of view of this girl living in the dust bowl region during the Great Depression. To say the least, her family has it rough.

I remember my 5th grade teacher reading it to us and she started to bawl during it. Then I, along with half of my class, joined her... Awww... Haha!

In short, I recommend it! And for any age!
