The listing, 20 organic Siberian Iris seeds for your garden (GIN for 40+!!) has ended.

These seeds were harvested from my "organic" garden this fall. (i have never used chemicals on it in over 19 years.)

Iris seeds require cold stratification, so you will either plant outside in fall, or place them in the refrigerator for a few weeks prior to planting in spring to prepare them for germination.

About 2.5 ft tall at maturity.

These lovely purple flowers are perennial. Growing beautiful green bladelike foliage. The bloom time is short but spectacular. With perhaps 3 flowers per stalk. (Hotter microclimates force a more synchronous bloom. Cooler microclimates produce longer / staggered bloomtime. )

They like well drained acid soil of pH 6-7
.They also like a few inches of mulch in full sun to keep roots cool. Drought resistant.

They will not bloom the first year after planting seed. But will spread more each consecutive year, reaching their a peak after 3-4 years. They will need to be divided to remain beautiful after ~5 years.

Some specifics: Generally the 28 chromosome hybrids are easier to grow than the Sino-Siberians.[13][16][43]

The iris will tolerate temperatures down to −20 °C (−4 °F).[4][9][27] It is hardy to USDA Zone 2-8,[7][7][27] and Zone H1 (which means hardy to −20 °C (−4 °F) and below (−40 °C (−40 °F)),[44]), in Europe.[15] It is hardy in the UK.[8][13] If the plants are mulched in winter they can withstand colder temperatures.[15]

The iris should be grown in well-drained,[4][13] fertile,[10] neutral to slightly acidic soils (the pH level should be more than 5.6).[17][39]

If the soil has a high sand or clay content, large amounts of organic material (such as compost or well rotted manure) should be incorporated at planting time.[39][14]

It prefers positions in full sun,[13][27] but can tolerate part shade (with some hours of sunlight).[14][43] In very hot, arid regions, they will need some shade, as well as watering and mulching.[17][39]

What is funny is that usda zone 2 usually gets down to -10 with windchills down to -30. So, whoever wins, be sure to mulch really good with a loose hay and leaf mixture mulch of at least half foot thick.
