The listing, "THE LAST SUPPER" - WOOD CARVING OF JESUS CHRIST AND HIS DISCIPLES - Hand Carved in the Philippines has ended.

Beautiful, handcrafted, religious wood carved wall plaque of Leonardo daVinci's The Last Supper.

This measures approximately 19" long, 9" tall and 1.75" thick.
It weighs approximately 2 lbs 7oz.

I don't know the history of this piece as it has just come into my possession. According to the tag it was hand crafted in the Philippines by a company called Galvez Handicrafts. The back of the tag claims it is "made of bitokling woodcarvings". I have never heard of that type of wood, I suspect it is a Filipino word, I just don't know what it translates to.

I have searched high and low on the internet trying to find another piece just like this and I haven't been able to find one. Therefore I believe this to be a one of a kind. If you believe different please speak up, I don't want to mislead anyone.

I tried to take some really good pictures so you can see the detail in this piece. I love it. I can't imagine how long it took the artist who created it.

Hi. I can give you a tiny bit of insight on this. I own a lot of South American (mainly Honduran) wood carvings and such (plaques, chests, etc).
The carver was probably able to knock that piece out in just a day or two (they're exceptionally fast - not incredibly detailed, but still impressive for the speed). Something like this would go for about $20-$25 (the price tag confirms that), unless you wanted to barter.
Not something you see too often in the US, due to shipping costs, etc. Fortunately, when my father was stationed in Honduras, he mailed us all kinds of stuff like this - he had an eye for unique items that people would appreciate stateside.

Aha! So that's what P950 means! 950 pesos. I did a currency conversion and it converts to about $23. I'm glad to hear this is not a very common find in this country. That explains why I haven't been able to find one of these for sale anywhere else.

I appreciate your insight. Thank you! Do you have any idea what sort of wood these are usually carved out of? It's very light for its size.

No idea what the wood is. I doubt it's consequential - it's nothing as prestigious as oak or anything. The selling point is simply the art itself. And yeah, most of the stuff I have is surprisingly light as well! :)

Most beautiful rendition of The Last Supper I have ever seen. Seeing where it actually happened, as I was so blessed by going to Israel last year, makes it more ominious. A beautiful auction for sure!
