Description

The listing, HP G61 Laptop - Read Description has ended.

Another big auction! This time, for an actual computer.
What I've got here is an HP G61 Laptop. Unfortunately, I really don't have a use for it anymore... and here's why....

The screen is damaged (volleyballs & LED displays don't mix, kids.) It works fine connected to a monitor (HDMI or VGA), but since I have a pretty slick desktop, it's kind of useless to me. I honestly was going to scrap it for parts, but since it works great besides that, I decided to list it instead.

Also, as you can see in one of the photos, one small bottom panel is missing. I misplaced it/my dog ate it/aliens abducted it/not sure. If I can find it, I'll replace it. If not, then it will be shipped "as is". It's not a life-threatening, crucial component as long as you don't spill something in there, cut the wires, hide candy in it, or whatever. Since this will probably just sit in one spot, you probably will forget about it anyway.

Ok enough of that, here's the specs:

Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit
AMD Athlon II M320 Dual Core 2.1GHz CPU
ATI Radeon HD4200 Graphics
15.6" LED Display (cracked)
250GB HDD
3GB RAM
DVD-RW Drive
3 USB 2.0 inputs
1 HDMI
1 VGA
SD/MMC Card Reader
Integrated Webcam
Battery (no issues, seems to have good life)
Charger included

If I missed anything, I'll provide the info in an update.
So usual Listia rules apply of course. No int'l shipping, can't afford it - sorry. Please be respectful, and HAVE FUN!!! :)

Oh and ***Monitor NOT Included!!!***

Thanks! Yeah it was a good laptop at one point, now it's more of a compact desktop until the screen gets replaced lol

Compaq does make some pretty decent laptops for sure. They seem built to last, more than I can say for some others lol

Led anything is not damage resistant. My son ruined a 4000 $ Samsung tv and all he did was hit it with something. =( Darn kids anyway, but you gotta love them =) Great auction. I would bid but i have 2 lap tops sitting around collecting dust.

Ouch :( I get worried about the same thing as both of my kids can be rather destructive, as most toddlers can be lol So far though the worst is having fingerprints on the TV *knock on wood* since they can both reach up the TV cabinet rather easily. Anyhow, if either of your dust collecting laptops happen to make it to Listia, you can likely count on my bid ;)

Like I tell everyone, if I can replace a screen, then anybody can do it :) The first time I ever did it, took me a bit of time since I was back and forth between the manual and the laptop. Hardest part (for me) is keeping track of all those little screws and not losing them lol

Hi: any special tool it will take to replace it. i am going to take a shot at this as the specs are nice and it was a good laptop. if it is just small screw drivers (phillips) i can do that. watching & waiting on reply to bid.
Jul 23rd, 2012 at 10:03:00 PM PDT by
Original
Pretty much all you'll need is smaller Philips head screwdrivers, and maybe something flat edged to help loosen the front bezel (though it's usually easy enough without one).

screen is $100-200 New laptop these specs or better is about 250 -300$

Yup, my usual vendor sells this particular model (G61-632NR) screen for about $140. It's not a cheap replacement, but if you're willing to drop that into something essentially free, then it's not really a bad deal.

Can't do it. Once a bid's been placed, can't change anything. Besides, want to give everyone a chance to watch, bid & save credits for this if they want.

have you tried to turn it back on after the crash with volleyballs hit the screen
Jul 20th, 2012 at 9:32:55 AM PDT by

It's turned on in all the pics, and displays perfectly on an external monitor. Screen backlight seems to light up, but no display since it's badly damaged.

the screen can be replaced right?
Jul 20th, 2012 at 9:16:42 AM PDT by
Original
Yes, it can be replaced. I normally order replacement screens for clients through www.laptopscreen.com (shipping is kind of expensive, but ultra quick since they're just right across the border not too far from me). They have screens in stock for just about any laptop/notebook, and replacement instructions can be found on the HP website. It's pretty easy to do so, just can't afford to do it for myself right now.
