Hold depends on what glue you use. I recommend the little bottle of Elegant Nails--works better than anything! As far as the strength of the false nails I use, they are professional nails, so there's very little chance of them breaking or chipping like you may see in those thin, drugstore types. I usually don't combine shipping, but instead, I give away freebie sets when someone buys more than one.
