BUT... These days a lot of people call items similar to this 'Tibetan Silver'. Which used to be called Nickel/German Silver. But, it's all just the generic name for any of a range of Non-Precious bright silver-grey alloys composed of copper, zinc and occasionally nickel. Also, despite its names, it contains NO real silver. Other names for 'Tibetan Nickel or German Silver' are: 'Nikel Silver', 'Nickle Silver', 'Silver', 'Afghan Silver', 'Austrian Silver', 'Brazilian Silver', 'Mexican Silver', 'Nevada Silver', 'Potosi Silver', 'Silverite', 'Sonara Silver', 'Tyrol Silver', 'Venetian Silver'. Just remember, NONE contain real silver.
Real "Tibetan Silver" will be marked as such and is similar to sterling silver.
Fine silver is 99.9% Pure Silver, with no other metals, and is marked as such.
Sterling Silver is 92.5% Pure Silver. The other 7.5% is a hardening agent which is usually copper or sometimes zinc. Most sterling items are marked in some way. Usually with "Sterling" or "925". Please note, that there are MANY items now marked "925" that are only silver plated. Including many rings and chains being sold here on Listia.
Also, most items marked "S80" is silver PLATED...NOT 80% silver. The term comes from the 80% solution of a chemical they use to plate it... not from actual silver content. If you buy from Mexico it is 80% silver or what is called "dirty" silver... It has to say 80 or 80.0 on it... NOT S80.
