thanks for your comment. Hi, the SCOBYs are quite hearty, but must be shipped priority to ensure quality. I provide a thick SCOBY as it is more resilient to environmental changes. The package comes with a cup of very strong started fluid and the scoby is packed separately with additional fluid. This way, should the scoby fail for some unforeseen reason, there is still enough fluid to grow a new culture. It's important to use only pure green or black tea. Herbal teas are not sufficient and any flavored or infused teas can harm your scoby. It will take 7-10 days to culture a gallon of sweet tea and all utensils used in preparation must be sanitized with plain distilled vinegar. Most importantly, do not disturb your SCOBY as it is adapting to its new environment during the 7-10 period. This is the one and only time I can offer Kombucha with free shipping. the SCOBY is a culture and cannot be ingested at anytime, and the starter fluid is not meant to be consumed as is. These two components cannot be ingested and only become a consumable item after a 7-10 treatment by the owner. Fruit and vegetable seeds produce food, and are allowed. Thanks for your post. I don't think this is an illegal auction. This is more like selling chia seeds, or stevia seeds, or tomato seeds. It may end up eventually after time and effort have something edible, but the scoby is not edible. Would you make tomato seeds illegal on listia? No.

I think rebeccae makes a valid point, scoby is not in a consumable state. More like a wort from which beer eventually ferments.
