great auctiion. went to Tenn. this spring, but they won't let you go hunt your own anymore. I guess too many people plus their trash etc. You know what I mean don't you? Somebody always has to do something stupid. I was bummed out I was ready to mine!!!!

Yes. I know. Now a days your not allowed to take anything from the beaches, parks, camp grounds, mines, etc.
If they allowed people to take them, their would be nothing left. I started gathering all my stones when I was a kid. For over 50 years I have been collecting. But, now it's time to pass some of them along. I will be putting more up in the near future if you want to keep checking back.

Great auction, Lori. I've always been a rock hound. Loved them as a kid and still do. Spent hours trying to find just the right "red rock" at a place in CO that shall remain unnamed!!! I think the people with me thought I was a bit whacked; everybody was finding me red rocks, and they weren't red enough. I had a pix in my head of that perfect rock and wasn't gonna quit til I found it! Never did get into lapidary like I'd always wanted to, though. Life got in the way, I guess! I live near Franklin, NC. Ever been to the gem show there? There's a big one in June, but not as big as the one out West that all the jewelers go to, though. They have a lot of ruby and sapphire mines around there. Some of the mines are tourist traps where they salt the buckets, others are legitimate and you can go dig your own bucket. You'd love it.

I'm a rock hound too. I love them, but we are thinking about selling the house within the next five years and moving so I have to start downsizing now with as much stuff as I have. Ha-ha!

I'm a rock "head" as we call it in Ohio, since childhood. I have vivid memories of sitting in our gravel driveway and picking out pretty stones. My mom would allow me to keep them on my dresser for a few days then back out into the driveway they went. OH, to have all of those pretty stones back! Nevertheless, I have amassed a pretty nice collection since then. I even have my own rock tumbler now so I've turned out some beautiful batches of rocks...some just picked from out of my driveway.

Oh, I so know what you mean about sitting and picking up pretty stones as a kid. I too had a rock tumbler at one time in my life and used to tumble the most beautiful stones. Then the company that I used to get all my tumbling supplies from closed, so that was the end of that. It became to expensive to have the supplies mailed to me. Now that we are going to move in the next five years I have no choice but to start sharing my collection. I'm just really happy that so many people enjoy them as much as I do. :o)
