Just a defect I think with its age. Not sharp in any way or split.

That was from the inner ring guard that the ring was made from. My mother has this ring and this one is missing it but assure me its nothing that you have to have. I have another Avon ring and I actually took my inner guard out. So much more comfy

If you check out her other Avon ring pics with the pearls you will see the guard. Some like them, I dont!
