The listing, R2D2 Star Wars figure has ended.

This only makes a sound like R2D2 when you turn on the switch in the back. My intention is to ship this without batteries. When we first bought this it was very expensive for what it was and came with a remote where you could get the unit to move. Then about a month later, the remote stopped working and shortly thereafter the red light on his dome went out. We have since lost the remote after trying to repair it. This still makes a nice figure to sit on a shelf or in your dollhouse.

It is about 8 inches tall and about 4 inches wide.

Do you know who makes this? How many buttons did the remote have? What functions did the remote control (fwd-rev-turn; sound)? I collect robots,R2 especially, and I am just trying to get a feel for the little guy. :-) Thanks..

He is from Hasbro. I believe that we got him in 2009 at Toy R Us. Here he is on amazon new http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-IR-Clone-R2D2/dp/B0028Y5SYE/ref=dp_cp_ob_t_title_2 but I do not suggest bothering to buy him new because we were so frustrated because the remote stopped working shortly after and trying to get him to work in the first place was a hassle. Not sure if he is worth collecting since we no longer have the original box or anything like that. It might be nice as a boy's doll or if you want to make him part of a scene.

Wow... he is pretty cool. That remote looks simple - I may can build one for him. My collection isn't a collection for the sake of value, but rather for the sake of enjoyment. This little misfit will fit right in around here! :-)
