Description

The listing, La Victoria Hand Painted Signed 1969 Candy Dish has ended.

This is double signed, one in gold ink, and the other was signed right into the wet clay. Both say "La Rena Brown" followed by "1969", which was also engraved in the wet clay. This is one of those pieces that can only increase in value because of the proof of age. Something that is older than 1980 is vintage, something from the SUMMER OF LOVE 1969, is a historical treasure. This is the summer Wood Stock happened and art was flourishing, women were fighting for equal rights and treatment in the workforce. This is about 5" across, and shows a Victorian scene of a woman sitting in a garden in a full formal period dress. It is a candy dish but can be used as a trinket tray, or even placed on a display shelf with other decorative plates and dishes. The artist died from old age 2 weeks ago, the obituary is online. There are no copies, and there never can be another one.

Thanks, I love that it is signed and dated 1969. Had it been 68 or 70 I would not of been so excited to come across it, but '69 was a very good year". I think of Woodstock Festival in New York, civil rights protests, bras being burned, and this woman embracing art, and accenting it with of all things, a beautiful woman. I think the "Summer of Love". I think of Apollo, this being the first year a man landed on the moon! This is the year hundreds of people gathered and protested the Vietnam war including the symbolic "March Against Death", with the First Draft Lottery was held since WWll. I think of this being the year the Stone well Riots started the Gay Rights Movement. And when the Student for A Democratic Society protested Harvard Campus resulting in 184 arrests! This was a year of rebellion, self expression, massive political and social change, and independent art. When I saw the year the beauty on the front turned into a piece of history, one of those "if this could talk it would tell some stories" moments. Ok yeah I am a history buff. :)

I love victorian Themed items. I DID have one of the bathrooms in all victorian themed...with dolls, etc. This is pretty and would go perfectly as accent. Thank you for offering and will give it a shot ;)

Thanks, that is a theme I enjoy too. The dresses are my favorite part of Victorian themes I think, but the general elegance and piety is a real lovely imagery as well.

Yes, I found it that way. She had one of those family memorial sites going. I will see if I can find it again for you, but it should come up by a google of her name.
