Instead, he spent 1.5 million dollars - a huge sum at that time - to insure that his Alamo reproduction was an exact replica of the original structure. (He even consulted the original blueprints).
This fact, combined with its close proximity to the battle site, has caused the set itself to become a national shrine dedicated to the valiant men of the ALAMO.
