In the southern United States we call it Monkey Grass, but there are many names for this great flowering yard plant.
Drought and cold tolerant. Takes hold and spread easily. Bunches can be divided to make more.

Yes they do great. They would need to be established before it got below freezing. Mine live through periods of under 20 degrees. They go dormant but they never lose their green color. When it warms back up new growth comes right back. One of my favorite ground covers. They multiply fast .
