The listing, 1920 Carinthia Plebescite stamps with Scott IDs, MH/VF, interesting history! has ended.
Up for auction or GIN are six 1920 stamps from the southern plebiscite Austrian state of Carinthia, which was between Austria and Yugoslavia. Stamps are mint hinged with very fine centering and the second photo shows Scott ID numbers from both Yugoslavia and Austria. Please see below from Wikipedia for my short summary of the complicated history of these interesting stamps and the area. From a smoke free home. Thank you for bidding!

A Short summary:
Carinthia, at the end of WW1, was divided between Austria and Yugoslavia into two zones (A&B). In 1920 a referendum in Zone A was held allowing the Carinthians to vote on whether to remain a part of Austria or become a part of Yugoslavia. The funds from the surcharged stamps of both countries were used to enable Carinthians to travel to vote on the referendum. After the Zone A vote, which was closely monitored by outside forces, the entire Carinthian Plebiscite region was placed under Austrian administration on 18 November 1920 and declared part of the sovereign Austrian Republic on November 22, 1920.
This is not the end of the conflict over this region. In 1938, this Austrian state became a part of the German Reich.
