The picture actually shows only light age spotting but have set scanner darker so that bidders will be aware that the aging spots are there. The picture actually shows very little discoloration, age spots appear very faint, and engraved picture and paper are in excellent condition for being at least over 135 years old.

Robert E. Lee, after the Civil War turned down many offers worth hundreds of thousands of dollars from American and British businesses to become head of a near bankrupt small Washington College with a salary of $1,800 a year. Washington College, the seventh oldest college in US, today is Washington and Lee University in Lexington VA. Robert E. Lee and family are buried in the Lee Chapel on the campus. Also buried in Lexington VA is former Virginia Military Institute instructor Gen. Stonewall Jackson. If traveling through Virginia stop and visit Washington and Lee University, VMI, and last resting places of these two famous Confederate generals.
