No, the ladybug plastic part is in the house and you stick it on the window so that the thermometer is facing the yard outside.

Rangerfan....sorry I confused you. I thought you meant "back" as in the thermometer part which does face the sun. The round ladybug part does not face the sun.

At least thats how I had it. But I guess you could hang it on the outside of the window so that when you are inside you can see the thermometer and know what the temp is outside. I never thought of it that way. LOL.
