Flowering Hardy Cactus! For scale, please check out my profile photo. Auction is for a cutting of this frost hardy selection of Echinopsis spachiana. They took a very hard frost (10 F) last year, (But you might want to protect them while they are young or if you are in a colder area. The large showy flowers begin opening in the late afternoon, are fully open in the evening, and last until the next evening. They have a faint fragrance, of almond and honey, but you have to get right up close to smell it. (And they will bloom in containers! But to bloom they seem to need to be mature and have several hours of intense full sun. The first bloom of the season was the most fabulous, but they have continued making occasional blooms every 3 or 4 weeks.)
This auction is for a beautiful little cutting, 4.5 X 2.5--that would be great in a mixed cactus and succulent container. I will be adding a photo of it and a better one of the plant when not in bloom soon. (I will also be adding another auction of a larger but not so pretty cutting in the next few days.)
These are very drought tolerant. I have not given them any supplemental water at all.
Unfortunately, the only way I can ship is by priority mail--and this won't fit in the small box--so the shipping is $10.95 for the medium box--for which I will need a US Postal Money order--or you can pay by PayPal. (I apologize, but I am low income and disabled, I don't drive, and I live in a rural area--so this is not negotiable.)
Each time the bidding goes up 100 points, I will add a cutting or division of another succulent or cactus--until the box is full. Winner's choice of more of this, or of any of the other things I am offering on my other auctions. I do want the shipping to be worth your while!
Thorns. We need to talk about thorns. These thorns are intense, persistent, and treacherous. You need some heavy duty leather gloves to handle these puppies.
