Description

The listing, Quilt Top (unfinished) has ended.

This auction is for an unfinished quilt top made by ladies at my Mom's church YEARS and YEARS ago. My Mom has passed away and half the blocks on this quilt have their names embroidered on them. These people live on the West Coast and I have no way of finding them. (and it bothers me to think about it for some reason???) Anyway my thought was a piece of the block with their name on it could be overlaid with another one of some kind of applique??? or rotary cut and do strips so the names would not be so dominant???

The blocks are approx. 12" x 12"
The quilt top is 7 - 12" blocks long
and 5 - 12" blocks wide

Really is a very pretty quilt (as you can see the first and last photo is of it spread across my large couch)

I have several quilt tops that my Mom started and I know where they came from and what the material reminds me of and who they were originally intended for so I decided to part with this one..

This quilt top is UNFINISHED - it is just the top and no quilting or binding - raw outside edge

Thanks for looking.

Thank you. It really is a very pretty quilt...I just have so many others at different stages of being finished and to be honest - this one with the names - it really makes me feel sad - I just don't want to deal with it, I guess.

Awww! Thank you trishat! I am so sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. I know exactly what you mean. It's been 4 years and it still kills me everyday... I even still reach for the phone to call her and then realize they don't have phones in heaven. Aug 27 would is her birthday. I fanned you back and looked at you profile. It doesn't say where you are from. Are you close to Orlando, Florida? What are you going to do with your Mom's quilting things? send me a message from my profile page if you like. Thanks again.

I know nothing about quilting but I have seen many at craft fairs and sales from PA,MD, FL, and VA! This is absolutely beautiful! I wouldn't cover up the ladies names on the quilt...as Nancy417 says it's part of the story....and a beautiful story it is! I'm going to fan you and watch this one! Sorry to hear about your Mom(by the way is her name in one of the squares?) My mom also is in heaven now for 3 years. I was looking for someone who would do a quilt for me made from some of her most worn clothing....maybe one day that will happen. Well good luck with your auction!

Thank you Artman1_98 and in answer to your question:
No, My Mother's Name is not one of these on the quilt top! (I would never part with it, if it was.) I only recognize one name on the quilt (Bonnie Knapp) and if it is the same person I remember, she was our Pastors' wife when we lived in Missoula, Montana. The reason I gave this quilt to the auction is that of the MANY quilts my Mom had started I can remember where some of the fabrics came from...(She made my bridesmaid dresses when I was 17 yrs old, some are from clothes she made me when I was younger than that! Anyway, my point is: In regards to making a quilt from your Mom's most worn clothing....Send me an Message so it will be private and I will give you my personal email so we can exchange ideas on that, if you are interested.) It's wonderful memories that every time I sit down to quilt with all the fabrics that I brought back to Florida from my partents' when my Mom passed away. Thanks for watching.

What size bed would this quilt fit????????????????????/

It's APPROX. size UNFINISHED is 60" x 72" ( I think that is the top size of a full.)

So depending on how you finish it. It is already big enough for twin or full with adding finishing border or even extend it to a queen.....

many options to finishing.

The blocks are approx 12" square
It is 5 blocks wide
It is 7 blocks long

Hope this helps.

I am going to go ahead and say the shipping will be a MAXIMUM of $6.00 anywhere in the lower 48 states. Does that help anyone decide? Most likely will be closer to $5.45 flat rate

Hi I am going to bid on this and if I win I will finish it as is. I live for vintage quilts I am in a wheelchair and I do this to keep myself busy. If anyone else has unfinished quilts please let me know I would love more. I believe we need to protect our past and maybe just maybe someone will see the quilt when I am finished with it and recognise one of the names. Thank you so much for listing. If your mom left anything you would like finished I do this stuff all the time and would be happy to finish it for you.

You just made me get the happy warm fuzzies!!
I am curious where are you? I do have quite a few quilts that my Mom started and she was much better at quilting and sewing than I am but I do LOVE quilting.
In June I went to Sandy, Oregon (near Portland) and attended the ANNUAL QUILT SHOW. I took tons of pictures of every quilt that I liked and there was a bunch!!! lol
I am going to fan you and send you a message. Thanks for bidding on my auction.
