whoever wins this DO NOT POLISH it will make it lower any value. Anytime you have something old leaving the condition alone is very important, just watch pickers or pawn stars, good luck all!

As long as your not damaging the coin this type of item can and should be cleaned..distilled water works fairly well. Its not just tarnish but 1400 years of ocean water gunk. While a lot of items may lose value by cleaning...this is not one of them.

I love all the "experts" on Listia! Just because you watch a show on TV does not mean you know what you are talking about! You should research this type of coin before you comment on someone else's auction. I'm just saying this because basically you are saying he doesn't know how to care for it! Thanks...

I think that person was referring to "patina" which is an oxidation that forms on brass, copper and such. That being removed devalues an item. Coins absolutely need to be cleaned to show their features. Its value increases. Just saying. Great auction. Im going to get it!
