Referred to by Wilkinson as the "Bible's Little Big Man," Jabez is never mentioned again. The verse before the prayer notes that Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and says that his mother named him Jabez because she gave birth to him in pain. Then: "And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, 'Oh, that you would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that your hand would be with me, and that you would keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me!' So God granted him what he requested." (1 Chronicles 4:10)
