Hi! They're made of soft elastic and various decorations. Like everything when it comes to little ones, Moms (and Dads) need to be aware of anything that might go into their babies' mouths. I hot glue the attachment very securely. I've been selling these for a long time, and my own granddaughter has numerous pairs, and there's never been a problem or I wouldn't continue to make them. It's not something worn by babies all day. They're very popular for pictures and events when you just want something a little special and different. I hope this answers your concerns because it was one of mine at first so I went the extra mile to make the attachments secure. I would NEVER make anything that would put my granddaughter or any other baby in jeopardy. I've been asked to make a pair with a little Hello Kitty plastic attachment but I didn't think something that small was safe, so I didn't. Please write back if I've not addressed your questions.
