Well, all i can say is that in my 58 years, i have never known of Mimosa to be an invasive species. Many people try to get them, only to discover that the plant they dug up was not the mimosa at all, but the invasive weed, which can be a problem. They both look exactly alike when small.
Mimosa on the other hand, is definely not invasive, and is sold widely in greenhouses and nurseries. You may want to check out some of the seed magazines, i think they have them also, but certainly not for free.
Mimosa has not now, nor has it ever been an invasive species. You probably looked up the weed which is invasive. Mimosa never has more than one tree close by, and that is only if you plant it. Obviously not invasive.

Looks like a jacaranda tree very popular throughout the Phoenix Arizona areas. Maybe a cousin? very attractive landscape specimens because they have an open canopy and tend to create a good shade tree form. Flowers are extremely fragrant. Nice Auction.

I have seen a picutre of the jacaranda, and from what i could tell, it was much prettier. They do have the open canopy though, and make excellent shade trees.

Whoever wins this one, be very careful in your care and handling of this tree. Do your research. There are actually laws regarding the Mimosa. Be sure to look into them.

I do believe you are referring to the weed which does strongly resemble Mimosa. Mimosa has never been an invasive plant. Actually every one wants one, but to get it, you either have to have a seed, or go buy one at the nursery. If they were invasive as you claim, then i could just dig one up anywhere.

No, they are not invasive. If you don't plant it, you sure won't have one.

I love the way the leaves fold up when touched. Ours was about 9-10 ft tall when it stopped growing up after 6 years.

Wow...My post got you that upset you felt the need to hide it? Let me PLEASE say I apologize, as that was certainly not my intention. I also want to say thank you for clarifying the information for me, I am a first year gardener, and I really don't know too much, which is why I am looking things up. I do know enough not to plant an invasive species, which was why I put up the post. I thought there might be others like myself who are just learning gardening by sharing information with others and educating themselves...I was simply sharing. I am sorry you felt you needed to hide my post, however I do greatly appreciate the clarification from you. People like myself rely on information and advice from experienced gardeners such as yourself. Thanks again Shirley!!

Oh,. well why didn't you just say that you were a new gardener and looking for new plants, and information. Heck the place is full of gardeners. We are always happy to accomodate a new gardener. I just got moved, and having to mail out a ton of mail this week, so i was in a bit of a slurry yesterday. I didn't mean to be rude.
