Description

The listing, Blue Agave Baby, last one for now . . . has ended.

Agave americana. Plants grow slowly to 14 feet or so. The bloom at maturity--anywhere from 15 - 35 years and their bloom stalk reaches upward of 25 feet! The main plant dies back after blooming, but the off sets live on.

These plants are traditional Native American sources of food, fiber, needles and hooks, and a sweetener which was tapped from the flowering stalks or baked out of the roasting heart. The thorns and hooks are formidable, and the sap from the leaves can be caustic and can cause rashes and irritation. These should not be planted in the ground unless you have plenty of room, and thick long sleeves, sturdy gloves, and eye protection should be worn when pruning or removing leaves to process fiber.

I will send winner one baby similar to the one in the photo. The adult plant pictured is the mama!

Shipping is by priority flat rate--in the US only, and includes tracking. Shipping must be paid by US Postal Money Order or Paypal--$6.10. (I live in a rural area, I am disabled, low income, I don't drive, and I have no way to cash a check. DO NOT SEND CASH.

I want the shipping to be worth your while, so each time the bidding goes up 100 points, I will add another cutting or division from a different succulent until the box is full. I have Aloe saponaria, Bulbine frutescens--mine has yellow flowers, Sedum alba--White flowered stone crop, a grey sedum I don't know the name of, and a mini flowering ice plant, among a few others. Check out my other auctions or send a facebook friend request and I will send you links to the photos.

All my plants are grown without chemicals of any kind.

I very politely let her know how I felt. She has some wonderful things she is auctioning, and I even shared one of them on my facebook page. I let her know that, that I might even bid on some of her offerings, but that she was not to spam my auctions with her listings. ~~ We are all capable of searching the offerings and making our own determination on what we want to bid on. Cheaper shipping is not always better. The longer the plants spend in transit the more chance they have to suffer from the experience. Anyway--Thanks for your support!
