Description

The listing, LAPTOP - works fine but no battery has ended.

This is an older dell laptop. it works fine but there is no battery - so it will need to be plugged in. it also appears as though the dvd drive doesnt open. There are two keys missing - the tab key and the down arrow. Even though it has these issues - it still connects online and works fine. This would be great for a child's laptop so they leave your alone - or for someone that just wants a basic laptop.

Does it come with a charger? Can it be used for dial up? I won an older Dell on listia, but cannot get it online, so trying again.

just for those who may not know what or how to open cd/dvd player using a paper clip, all cd/dvd players have a tiny hole somewhere on the front, in that hole insert paper clip or any sm straight object that will fit in hole, and gently push and it pop open the player, great tip if you have one not plugged in and forget to take a disk out.

If your computer has a port for the phone line (and all of them do to my knowledge) the user can connect via dial-up.

but if it has no battery then it cant be wireless because wireless means it needs no plug in to turn on and you claim it has no battery so it had a battery you took out of it or no? and if so the battery had to work as you claim you used it wireless, so what happen to the battery? {:O)
Aug 21st, 2012 at 5:39:00 AM PDT by

no - it needs to be plugged in for power, yes - but it doesnt need to be connected to a modem or anything. lets say partially wireless lol.

being plugged in for power has nothing to do with it being wireless aladyinneed. (that is the electrical wire, for power, not internet reception.)
Wireless means that its not tied down to a cable modem for internet access. That you can take your laptop anywhere and get the internet without plugging it in for internet. It means that it is equipped with a certain kind of card inside of the laptop that is like an antennae that picks up the internet without having to have it plugged in to a cable for reception. But it still needs to be plugged into an outlet to run since the battery is not there. And to recharge the battery once there is one. All laptops need electricity and need to be plugged in at some point. But they don't all need to
be plugged into an internet device to get online. Does that help you understand? Being plugged in for electrical power has nothing to do with wireless internet. Two totally separate things. I hope this helped a bit. I guess it is kind of confusing to some. Just trying to help. =0) fanned and watching!!

Oh, yes. I understand that the missing keys are useable. It doesn't taint your ad. I'm watching. The winner can replace the keys eventually. It's just that this model's keys aren't available at this time on eBay. No problem.

e/b/ay sells single laptop keys cheap! also, the dvd rom ...try pulling it out and sliding back in by giving it a firm shove......dells can be a bit stiff..sometimes the cable doesnt line up w/ connector pins
i used to work on them ....mine always had that problem...also the dvd rom-look in front it has a very tinypin hole..its an emergency open ...use a sewing needle or safety pin and let us know if it opens..check that dvd rom is in tight enough...dells are known for the dvd rom's being a problem, coming loose etc
especially slightly older ones i used to have to pull out my dvd rom and slide it back in every time i used it lol *watching*

You might have to tell the tray to open via the menu on your media player, or the paper clip may do the trick. Give those methods a try and it may start operating again. If it opens via menu, it may be a software glitch. Simply upgrade or reinstall the media player or ask the winner to do so (free on the Net). If it only opens via paper clip, the device is probably worn a bit. Let me know how it goes. Thanks.
