Questions & Comments
it has to have another mark it cant be 925 for 925 means that it is made of 92.5% pure silver so there is some difference in composition. Items listed as 1/20 are made of 1/20 .925 Sterling over brass. Items listed as 1/10 are made of 1/10 (10% by weight) of .925 Silver or better, over brass.
Although it is true that many sterling silver items are marked 925, no longer are all items that are marked 925, sterling silver. Over recent few years, China has flooded the worlds markets with erroneously marked jewelry items that are silver plated. Another marking that is not right is S80. They are also silver plated items versus what some people thought was supposed to be 80 "Dirty" silver, like Mexico uses in a lot of their jewelry. From what I understand, their latest addition to this 'trend' is what they are claiming to be 'silver filled' items. However, many of these are being proven to also be silver plated like the others. Most of this stuff comes in thru AliExpress and AliBaba in high volume. These items are not known to be sold in physical 'stores', but instead on internet sites like ebay. The only way to know for sure if items like these are what the supplier are claiming is to have them checked out by a jewler. Most of them can tell simply by looking at them. Then an acid test is usually done to confirm. Since most silver plated items are not marked as such, and 'silver filled' is not a common thing, that is now the only way to be sure if an item is solid, plated or possibly filled. You can find all of this info out by just doing a little research on the internet. Ebay has put out many warnings about the items like these that they have found and are still finding people selling on their site.
