Mrs Erlynne (Helen Hunt) escapes her debts in 1930s New York by running off to the Amalfi Coast, where she meets aristocratic young couple Meg (Scarlett Johansson) and Robert Windermere (Mark Umbers). As Lord Windermere does his best to help Mrs Erlynne regain her place in society, local gossip assumes that they are having an affair.
