Here's another VERY old US stamp-- it's a 2c red with a ship on it. It says "Series of 1898" and "DOCUMENTARY STAMP" at the bottom. It is signed in ink on the face, with "Jan 6 1900" and what seems to be someone's initials. There's a little bit of a tear and fold in the bottom right corner, but still pretty nice for such an old item... I don't really know anything else about this.

Here's the bigger scoop: Both my parents passed away in the last 3 years, and they were borderline "hoarders." My stepdad collected stamps, and this is from his collection.
