The listing, The Duke of Sycamore, Children's Fantasy Book, Vintage has ended.
I wish more children's books used such beautiful artwork! This gorgeous children's book from 1959 is quite the find, and I am not exaggerating when I say that 50% of the book is devoted to lush, detailed pencil artwork . The story itself seems quite entertaining, a story of a squirrel tricking all of his forest friends into thinking he is a duke. Circa 1959.
This one, unlike most of my other listings, is pretty worn -- it was a library book, and obviously well loved. The outer cover has some light wear around the edges (perhaps from being carried in a series of backpacks through the years?), but the binding and spine are both tight and sound. The damage to the book is inside. The first two pages have a small tear at the bottom, and a couple of the pages have been punched with a library watermark, visible in pictures 2 and 4. Someone also wrote on the spine at one point, visible in the last picture.
Other than that, the book is pretty sturdy and would likely survive to delight another generation of children! All of the pages are still attached tightly, and I'd be quite happy to see this go to a loving home.
I'm starting this one low so that everyone gets a chance. :)
