The listing, Eastern Redbud Tree seeds (10) has ended.
The Eastern Redbud is one of the most beautiful flower tree/shrubs in America. Cercis canadensis L. (Eastern Redbud) is a large shrub or small tree native to eastern North America from Southern Ontario, Canada south to northern Florida, United States. The flowers are edible and can be tossed into any garden salad for a burst of color. You can also make jelly from the blossoms. (recipe upon request).
In some parts of southern Appalachia, green twigs from the Eastern redbud are used as seasoning for wild game such as venison and opossum. Because of this, in these mountain areas the Eastern redbud is sometimes known as the spicewood tree.
Easy to grow from seed. Remove them from seed pod, put seeds in boiling water for one minute, dry, place in refrigerator for at least 3 wks, then plant after all danger of frost has passed.
If you plant them without the above procedure they can take up to 3 years to germinate, since the seed shell is really hard.
