(Stachys betonica) This perennial herb was highly prized in the middle ages for it's medicinal properties, and even an old Italian proverb says "sell your coat and buy Betony". It is still found growing around ancient physic gardens and monasteries where it was traditionally used to treat arthritis and gout. Modern herbalists say it's astringency and mild bitterness have made it a valued wound and digestive remedy, but that it shines in its use in treating tension and pain - including migraines. The entire plant is harvested on a July morning after the dew has evaporated, and the plant is then dried to make tea.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:
USDA hardiness zones 5-10. Suitable for well-drained, moist, sandy and loamy soils, but can grow in heavy clay soil. Prefers semi-shade or full sun.

Betony works wonders for my headaches - and, in my opinion, tastes wonderful!
