The listing, Bank of the Old Dominion $10 Promissory Note - 1857! has ended.
Here's another great item from the 19th century!
This promissory notes was issued by the Bank of the Old Dominion (VA) on what looks like January 24, 1857.
The note could be redeemed at the bank branch in the town of Pearisburg, VA. The Cashier's signature appears to be Ian McKenzie; the President's signature is very difficult to read, but appears to be McKnight.
The note was printed by Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Edson of New York. Red fine lace protector; this was an anti-counterfeiting method, similar to the use of very fine lines on modern US currency.
The lower-left quarter of the note has been torn off and taped back into place.
In rough condition overall, but where else are you going to find a promissory note issued just a few years before the start of the Civil War?
Even in such a rough state, it would look great framed and hanging on your wall!
