FRECKLE FACE BLACKBERRY LILY -aka- Leopard Lily
Botanical name: Belamcanda chinensis 'Freckle Face'
THIS AUCTION IS FOR 50 SEEDS. This so-called Lily is actually a member of the Iris family (Iridaceae) but its common name comes from its lily-like growth habit. The plants will begin blooming in mid-summer of the 2nd year. The seeds can be germinated in pots or direct sown into soil in the fall, about 6 weeks before the first frost.
The "blackberry" part of its name comes from the appearance of the seeds that follow its blooms. The seed pods open up when the seeds are mature and reveal what looks like the biggest, plumpest blackberries you've ever seen -- but they are not edible and they can make a body quite sick. So, don't even think of eating them! It has average watering needs -- avoid overwatering.
Freckle Face Blackberry Lilies likes a spot that gets partial sunlight, esp. in the afternoon,
but will do well in full sun in USDA zones 6 or below. The full hardiness range of this plant is USDA zones 4a to 10b.
