Description

The listing, Canon AE-1 SLR with 200mm Telephoto Lens! has ended.

The Canon AE-1 is a 35mm SLR with shutter-priority automatic exposure and manual override, produced by Canon in Japan.

By using a microprocessor, Canon was able to simplify the design, and by using a highly automated production process, they were able to keep costs low. The result was one of the first affordable TTL autoexposure cameras to hit the market. After its introduction in 1976, the Canon AE-1 quickly became a very popular camera worldwide.

The AE-1 used Canon's FD mount, and a typical setup would include the extremely popular Canon FD 50mm f/1.8 lens. The electronic shutter travelled horizontally on the focal plane, and offered speeds of: 2, 1, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/15, 1/30, 1/60, 1/125, 1/250, 1/500, 1/1000, and B. Flash sync was auto-switching, available through both PC connector and hot shoe. It was one of the first cameras to offer full-aperture TTL metering.

FD lenses should be quite plentiful and inexpensive on other auction sites, like eBay. You can find a manual online for free; go to Camerapedia.org and look up the AE-1. It's ready to go out of the box, but I'd recommend taking it to a camera store for a general cleaning and check-up. There's some dust inside that needs to be removed, and that should be done by a professional so that the optics and electronics are not harmed by harsh chemicals, etc.

Shipping is by USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Medium Box only. Well worth the cost!

[Note: The AE-1 was my first SLR camera, and I still own it 30 years after I bought it! Still works like it does when new!]

FREAKING AWESOME!!! I've been looking for a film SLR camera forever. But why does the auction have to be so long?!

So EVERYONE has a chance to see it and run some quick auctions of their own to build up credits to make a bid that has a chance of winning! 10 days isn't that long for a camera you'll probably keep for the next decade or two! I've had mine for 30 years!

Also, if this gets a certain amount of credits, will you consider free shipping?

Given the value of the camera and lens, $11 is a REAL bargain! Using the Flat Rate Box gives the fastest delivery with tracking! If $11 is too much, you probably shouldn't be spending money on ANY of the items on this site!

Hey! Don't forget those other cameras! IMHO, they'll ALL great cameras; any one of them make a good starter SLR for the new photographer! I'm not sure about the condition of the AE-1 Program body, but the Mamiya (they make GREAT medium format cameras) and the Konicas are good bargains as well!

Don't get me wrong - bid 10K on this! But if you DON'T have 6K+ credits, 1-2K for a Konica will be worth it!

IMHO, the Mamiya will be just as good. You won't have the telephoto, but how many times do you REALLY need one?

Not too often, but its good to have one. I have an analog camera too in my auction but its something I can't use often times.
