What's it about?
Mad medical student Herbert West develops a formula that can re-animate dead tissue. When he introduces his rather hesitant fellow student Dan Cain to his crazy experiments, the two set about trying to prove that death is not the end...although soon enough they'll wish it was.

Is it any good?
In a decade when horror was all about mask wearing stabby maniacs, along came Gordon's brilliant `Re-Animator' which blends comedy with gross-out horror so intelligently that you'll laugh yourself sick. Based on H.P Lovecraft's story, `Re-Animator' may seem tame compared to today's standards but back in 1985 it was released unrated; substantial cuts made sure it went through without an X-rating...sigh. At no point does this film feel like a low budget B-movie, this is accomplished through Gordon's excellent direction. This gives `Re-Animator' a Hitchcock feel mixed with a fun Frankenstein story and some incredible special effects. On top of this there is quality acting, but it is Jeffrey Comb's mad scientist Herbert West that went on to become one of the most memorable characters in horror history. `Re-Animator' is a clever bloodbath of gross-out gore, jet-black humor
