Description

The listing, Malva sylvestris Zebrina Seeds has ended.

Malva 'Zebrina' is a popular heirloom plant with pale pink flowers that are striped purple. It blooms the first year from seed, so it can be grown as an annual in cold zones. Can also be planted in spring for blooms later in the summer. My earlier blooming Malvas reseed and I always have a second group near the end of summer. Also known as French Hollyhock or Zebra Mallow. Grows up to 3-4' tall. Hardy in zones 5-9. Sow indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost date. Barely cover the seeds. Full sun to part shade. Will ship at least 20 seeds. Seeds harvested last week.

I really like the color of these. I'm not an expert gardener by any means, so it may sound silly, but does sowing indoors before the last frost date mean they need to be planted in the fall to come up for spring? Also, how many usually bloom from 1 seed? Thanks!

The planting inside before the last frost date is mainly for gardens in cold climates, zone 5 and down. It depends on where you live. I live in Missouri, seeds planted in the fall will bloom around May; seeds planted in the spring outside will bloom later in the summer. Mine come back in the spring, blooming in May and longer, seeds from those plants drop and the plants from those seeds bloom late in the summer and early fall. They do reseed quite a bit but not quite to the point of being invasive. They are beautiful.

I had posted a comment thanking you & telling you I was in zone 5/6 Ohio, but for some reason it disappeared. If it shows back up, sorry about that. lol

I'm in 6b, used to be 5b, so your weather is probably about the same as ours.
