The listing, !!!WOW REAL!!! Ostrich Egg has ended.
Yes, this is a real ostrich egg. It has been drained and cleaned. I grew up on an ostrich farm. This is a unique item and It's not every day that you find one of these while visiting a friend or family member. It is also a really great gift idea, as well. I have given these to close friends I have known over the years, and they are just amazed. Please feel free to ask any questions. Good Luck and hope you enjoy!

My uncle was just talking about getting one to paint on :)
Thanks I fanned you back. I don't really have anything to put up. Besides, I would have to learn how to put a picture up if/when I have something to put up. :)

i have been working with ostrich eggs for thirty years even as small as a robin egg as a matter of fact i have a decorated ostrich egg listed on my site for anyone to get an idea what you can do with one
LOL!! This is a great question:) When the egg was laid, it went into the incubator, and if it did not form an embryo , it meant that the baby would never grow. So, it would be removed and we would drill holes in the top and remove all the insides. So, yes it is hollow. Now for it being breakable, it just depends... It is actually pretty thick. I'm sure if you dropped it in a hard floor it would break, but they are pretty strong otherwise. As a kid, nobody wanted these eggs, so that is when I started cleaning them out and selling them. At the state fair, flea markets, etc... people would pay good money for them. A lot of people started crafting with them. With the dremel tool, you can make designs, pictures, or whatever you want on them, or even paint on them, or just leave it plain. If you ever saw that music video with Adele, where she sings "someone like you" in her home, she has a plain ostrich egg sitting on her book shelf. And that is how many people kept them. We used to get wooden shower curtain..... The round things that hold the curtain to the rod, I forget what they are called, but they will sit on them and then you dont have to worry about them rolling all over. Let me know if you have any more questions, and thank you for checking out my auction:)
