Description

The listing, 50 Heirloom Indian Corn Seed has ended.

The winner of this auction will receive 50 heirloom Indian Corn seed of the type and colors shown in the first picture. The second picture (the pale ear) is of the 1st ear of corn grown and harvested this year from the same seed I'm offering here.

It's very beautiful seed and some of the prettiest I've ever run across. The dried ears work very well for holiday decorations, but this corn also makes really awesome cornmeal when ground and can be eaten fresh when in the 'milk stage'.

I acquired this seed 2 years ago from a gardener over near Lebanon, TN, and currently have a small patch growing...or, rather, about to be harvested.

Due to the drought this year, the patch didn't do as well as I had hoped, but we'll get back more than enough seed for next year's garden and some extra besides. Not a bad return on my planting efforts and I used less than a handful of seed, so I'm extremely happy with this corn. I hope the winner will be too...:)

Can you eat it like cob corn or is it just for drying?

Yes, you can eat it like corn on the cob. Unfortunately for me, this year I only planted a small patch of this kind of corn and I only pulled one ear for eating, as I'm saving the rest for seed for next year's garden, but that one ear was very good with butter, salt, and pepper...:).
