The listing, 50 Heirloom Hickory Cane Corn Seed has ended.
The winner of this auction will receive 50 heirloom Hickory Cane Corn seed grown this year (2012).
Despite the drought and crazy weather, our small patch of Hickory Cane did very well this year, and we were able to eat several meals of it while it was in the 'milk stage' and still had plenty left over to dry for next year's garden.
The first picture is a stock photo from the net, but the second and third pictures are of the actual corn we grew this year. The plants get very tall and were quite lovely in our garden this year. I very much look forward to growing it again next year!
Hey Gail! No, not what you would call sweet corn exactly, though when picked in the short window of time known as the 'milk stage', it's sweet enough I guess. Hickory Cane is what's known as a 'field' or 'dent' corn and we ate it every summer when I was growing up. It's mealier and somewhat tougher than the more modern, hybrid types of sweet corn commonly sold in stores today.
I actually prefer field corn to sweet corn most of the time, but I'm biased and admit it...this was my favorite kind of corn growing up and it still is..:D!
Hey Erika...:D...color me embarrassed, I owe you a recipe, don't I? :D! My bad, I've been under the weather and busy on top of that...the two states do NOT coexist well, ya know? LOL. I can't do it right this moment, but will do it later today and just post it here for everyone...share the wealth (and the pounds...;)...LOL!
