(I am not including them as part of the regular auction because I am in doubt about the authenticity of the "Turkish Turquoise" beads. I took a hammer to a few out of curiosity, and it broke in similar fashion to pottery.)

I will throw in an INCREDIBLE bonus if GIN is used. I have set it rather high, as I thought it would be more fun to watch the auction play out. :) But hey, if you wanna spend that many credits to avoid staying up late and taking the risk...by all means...:D

If you're interested in GIN, let me know and I'll put a nice little package of bonuses together, and post pictures of such.

These come from a smoke-free, pet-free, kid-overwhelmed home. :) Feel free to ask any questions! Peace!

How big is the raw sapphire in image 7? Thanks in advance.
BTW, as a jeweler, the correct term for your tree agate is moss agate.

You are so right! There is a difference between tree & moss agate, though often the names are mistakenly used interchangeably. That's an awesome career. How long have you been doing that? I could likely use your advice & expertise as I find exciting things in the field that I have difficulty identifying...:D

The large squareish bead in picture 7 is 3/4" and is sodalite. Is that the one you are referring to?

I DO have some beautiful sapphires all cut & ready to be set...perhaps I will add one if this auction goes well. :D

I am so sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you. Being a jeweler has it''s good and bad points as any career does. I have been doing this for 20yrs and am GIA certified. It is very difficult to tell sometimes on the Internet what a stones true nature is due to the differing chromatic color systems of different monitors.

Since Turquoise only has a hardness of 5-7 on the Mohs hardness scale and has a triclinic crystal system, I would say that it would shatter if struck with a hammer. It would fracture at it's multiple cleavage points so I do not think it would look like smashed pottery. Due to it's Crystal Habit being nodular and massive. I hope this helps you & feel free to PM me if you ever need help.
Have a good day today & a better day tomorrow,
Jade

JeT922...I would assume you have never heard of "Turkish Turquoise"? (Those came from overseas and I am not convinced of their authenticity, which is why I did not include them in the listing except as a complimentary bonus. As I described, I did take a hammer to a few and found them with a natural fracture similar to modern pottery. But I haven't been able to make myself smash a known-authentic piece to compare the fractures. Can you blame me? Have you ever seen one break, by chance?)

Turquoise has NEVER been found to occur in Turkey, but was often traded at Turkish Bazaars...which is thought to be where it's name arose.

Nice to see such pretty work. I also have a gem and mineral consultant for my work. It makes things so much easier for these untrained eyes.

I would be happy to label them for the winner, if requested to do so. :) That is exactly what I used to ask for, and it helped me greatly in learning to identify gem stones. :)

This may be a stupid question, lol, but are they all drilled with a hole for stringing?
Sep 27th, 2012 at 4:20:04 AM PDT by
Original
Yes...with the one exception of the Titanium Druzy (GORGEOUS!), they are ALL drilled. :)
