what is the circumfrence at the wider end, for those of us with skinny arms?

That is the beauty of the lace ups... It can be laced tighter over skinny arms. However without any spaces between the sides it is exactly 4 inches apart. It is designed to open up and see the lacing so fully adjustable sizing. Thanks for the question!
