The listing, Knitting Thumb Needles 4" Short 1 Set of 4 has ended.

I CHARGE SHIPPING. This is a new product designed by an experienced knitter for use on small tubulare knitting jobs like thumbs, fingers, doll clothes, belts, etc. They are made to my specifications. (Well, who did you think?) I have knitted hundreds of mittens both with and without them. When you only have a few stitches on each needle the long aluminum needles will fall out of the sts on the needle not in your hands. These are only 4" short so they stay in the sts better. Much easier to work with. They are made in plastic or wood. Sizes 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 10.5, 11, 13,15 & 16. Right now I also have a few of size 2 but they break during the manufacturing process. This is one set of 4 double pointed needles. So tell me what size you want. You should get the same size as the long needles you use. It you want more than one set, email me. The 4 needles will usually be all the same color. I also pioneered an easy way to count the number of rows you are knitting. For this you need 3 needles alike and the 4th different. You cast on or pick up sts with the three alike. Then you begin the first row with the odd needle. You knit around and around until you are back at the beginning and have the odd needle free. You have just knitted 4. rows. The next time is 8 rows, etc. Fingers and thumbs are usually 20 rows or less. If you want to do this, I can make your set 3 alike and the 4th different. You can try this with any set of needles. Mark one needle with marking pen or nail poliish. On ribbed cuffs I make them 12, 16 or 20 rows. Ribbing is particularly difficult to count rows. Once you try it you'll like it. I have been knitting for over 50 years so I know what I am talking about. If you want a set of 5 or any other oddity, just write.

Interesting! Im looking at size 4 to start, could you 3 needles alike and the 4th different in wood? If not I will try the nail polish idea. I cant wait to try this out.

I do that all the time. I am on the second mitten of a pair and every 8th row I am purling it for the deaign. The 4th needle makes it easy to coulnt them. Of course you can tell whether it is the 5th row or th 8th row eaxy ennnough. I make the ribbing in several sets of four. When I get to the fingertips I end after a set of 4 rows. I can tell if it is 24 rows or 28 or whatever. If you hold the two together iyou can tell. Otherwise iyou can eaily be a row or two off and not notice it. I sometimes use a plastic needle for the odd one. Sometimes have have 2 very different shades of wood and sometimes I don't. Then the nail polish is good. We use it for everything except fingernails. When my brother was little we had a birthday party for neighbor kids. Mom put their names on glasses and they loved them. One boy brought a little brother who wasn't invited. While I watched the kids shje went inthe pantry and made his name too. All the kids went home with the glasses proudly.
